New Year in Seattle

For the past 27 years, Suzanne and Ken Conrad have hosted the "Protest the Bowls" New Year Kitefly on the shores of Puget Sound in Seattle. And in all that time, it has only rained once!

For OH-One-OH-One-OH-One, the day was bright and sparkling as the fog lifted to provide a stunning vista of the Olympic Mountains over the Sound. Fliers from throughout the city converged on the park bringing kites, smiles, and plenty of food.

Harold Writer Kites

Harold Writer, a well-known and well-loved Seattle kitemaker passed away at the end of the year. Friends brought many of his kites to the field in a celebrations of Harold's joy of flying.

Plenty of other creative shapes tested the light breezes, but mostly it was a day of camaraderie and cookies. "Protest the Bowls" was good fun -- and what better way to spend my first day as the New AKA President!

Happy New Year!

Happy New year everyone!!

Susie and I are hard at work preparing for the Kite Trade Association Annual Convention in two weeks. When we get back, we expect to have all kinds on new toys and treasures to tempt you with.
